Follow the brown signs

Devoted to the work of one of Britain’s greatest twentieth century painters, and located in his beloved home village of Cookham, the Stanley Spencer Gallery was named by ArtFund this year as being one the UK’s five most ‘unmissable’ small Art Galleries. In paintings dating from the early 1900s through both World Wars and beyond, visitors will discover poignant fusions of the ordinary with the extraordinary and the earthly with the spiritual.  Spencer’s own loved ones take on mystical qualities in images which are inspirational and have a timeless character.
