Visit the National Coal Mining Museum for England and discover the hidden world of mining through the centuries. Visit our galleries to see how miners lived, worked and relaxed. Don a hard-hat and lamp, to descend 140 metres on an underground tour led by ex-miners.  Above ground, visit the ponies, explore the nature trail and watch wildlife from one of the bird hides. Take a train ride to Hope Pit and unearth the science of mining with the help of interactive displays. Lots of special events, exhibitions and children’s activities throughout the year, plus regular craft fairs.
