Ludlow Castle is reportedly the finest of medieval ruined castles, set in the glorious Shropshire countryside at the heart of this superb, bustling black & white market town. Walk through the Castle grounds and see the ancient houses of kings, queens, princes, judges and the nobility – a glimpse into the lifestyle of medieval society.

What  also makes this castle great was the distinct lack of a formal visitor experience, with not roped off areas or big interpretation panels this castle begs to be explored and climbed all over (which I did with relish).
