Lacey Green Windmill

Lacey Green Windmill is the oldest smock windmill in the country, with its original wooden machinery dating from around 1650.  The windmill was in use until around 1915, but by the late 1960s it was in a sorry state and in danger of total collapse. A group of volunteers within the Chiltern Society spent many years restoring the windmill to working order. However, the mill does not actually operate as that would put the 360 year old machinery too much at risk.  We do open to visitors between 2 and 5 on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays from the beginning of May until the end of September. Lacey Green is 2 miles south of Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire, between Aylesbury and High Wycombe. Please note that we have ‘brown signs’ from the A4010, but they are only visible on our open days, being folded away at other times. Full directions and public transport details are available on our website.
