Displayed in traditional farm buildings the ‘Antique Chairs’ collection ranges from the 17th to the early 20th century. This is a ‘live’ museum in that nearly all of the chairs are for sale, apart from a small number that are not readily replaceable. An attempt has been made to portray some of the changes over the past 400 years, illustrating the development of various styles and material use, and also the movement from Elizabethan carpenter to Georgian designer.
